Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has left for England as an alternative of Shikhar Dhawan. However, Shikhar Dhawan will remain in England under the supervision of BCCI’s medical team.
The BCCI has given a green signal to Pant to go to England. Pant will practice after joining Team India.

Selectors Chose Karthik Over Pant
During the selection of the team, the selectors chose Dinesh Karthik over Rishabh Pant.
However, this 21-year-old player will not be available for selection in the inaugural Playing XI. Because Pant will only get an opportunity after a final decision on Dhawan is taken.
According to the news, the Indian team will submit to the ICC Technical team the entire report related to Dhawan’s injuries. After this, they will request for the replacement.
Pant will reach Nottingham on Wednesday, 12th June. He will reach the venue a day before the match between India and New Zealand. But till the team management does not make a final decision about availability of the rest of the tournament, Pant will not be included in the 15-man squad instead.
According to a BCCI official, they have called Rishabh Pant from India as a cover on the request of team management.
Rishabh Pant’s Impressive Performance
Pant performed impressively in the last one year. He also scored centuries in Test matches in England and Australia.

Rishabh Pant has played 5 ODIs for Team India so far. In the IPL, he scored 488 runs at an average of 37.53 while playing for the Delhi Capitals, including three fifties. During this period, their strike rate was 162.66.

Shikhar Dhawan got hurt during the match between Australia and India on Nile Coulter’s ball. He will take it at least a month to recover from injury. They fear that he cannot play in two matches with New Zealand and Pakistan.
The BCCI has said, “Dhawan is under the supervision of BCCI medical team. Team management has decided that Dhawan will remain in England and they will monitor his injury. Dhawan has an injury between the left-hand index finger and thumb. ‘
In the match against Australia, while Dhawan was injured yet he scored 117 runs in 109 balls. After India’s inning, he didn’t the field. On his place, Ravindra Jadeja came to the field. India won that match by 36 runs.
