Finding a complete cure for cancer is the biggest challenge among medical researchers at the moment because, in the year 2018, 96 lakh people died because of cancer worldwide. But now scientists have succeeded in finding a cure for cancer by turning the tumor into something else. Yes, a team of scientists has found ways to prevent breast cancer from spreading and it can be prevented by spreading breast cancer cells into fat.

In this research done on mice, the team of scientists created some pathways in the body through which metastasizing has been successful in dividing the rapidly-growing cancer cells into fat cells. Cancer grows or metastasizes through 2 pathways in the body — epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and mesenchymal ‐ to ‐ epithelial transition (MET).

Success in converting cancer cells into fat cells

Scientists used rosiglitazone, a drug used to treat diabetes, and trametinib, a drug used in cancer treatment, to treat the aggressive form of breast cancer in mice. The team found that when cancer cells came in contact with these drugs, they tried to change the route through both EMT and MET. However, during this process, cancer turned into fat cells instead of sales and spread. This whole process is called adipogenesis.

Success in breast cancer cells

They give the results of the University of Basel therapeutics in a particular setting and rosiglitazone and trametinib, it specifically targets cancer cells with increased plasticity. However, this procedure was not effective on many cancer cells because many cancer cells did not change but it was beneficial in breast cancer. Breast cancer cells that have undergone EMT have not only turned into fat sales but also stopped being generated altogether.
