RS By-Election: No Candidates From BJP, Manmohan Singh’s Way Clear

In the Rajya Sabha by-elections, they have cleared the path for Congress candidate former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to be elected unopposed as the BJP will not field its candidate in this election.

The BJP legislature called a meeting on Tuesday, in the state office to decide the candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. When the MLAs did not have an opinion on this issue, the state organization dropped its decision on the central leadership. The central organization has decided not to field candidates.

Seven MLAs wanted not to decide in haste  

According to sources, MLAs Vasudev Devnani, Kiran Maheshwari, Ramlal Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Dharma Narayan Joshi, Madan Dilawar were in favor of being declared candidates. 

Their reasoning for contesting the election was that the Congress should not be given a walkover and that contesting the election will also send a message among the people. 

Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore, Ashok Lahoti, Actors Maharishi, Narayan Singh, Dharmendra Mochi, Bihari Lal Vishnoi, Kalicharan Saraf said that the party does not have sufficient strength to win elections, so the decision should not be hasty.

Katariya Gave the Information to Central Organization

After meeting the Leader of Opposition Gulabchand Kataria, Deputy Leader Rajendra Rathore and State Spokesperson Satish Poonia did another separate meeting. Kataria informed the central organization via phone. 

After talking to the central officials, Kataria reached for a press briefing. He said that after discussion with the legislative party; they have left the decision of the candidate to the central organization. 

Until the decision of the center came they also stopped the legislators in Jaipur. Two hours after the meeting, the central organization decided not to field candidates. 

BJP has 9 out of 10 Rajya Sabha seats in the state. One seat is vacant after the demise of Madan Lal Saini. The Assembly has 198 MLAs out of 200. A majority of these are in favor of Congress. The BJP and its supporting RLP together have 74 MLAs.
