The much talked about film Mental Hai Kya will release on July 26. Hardly a month later. However, the trailer of the film is yet to come. The makers who earlier were to release the film’s trailer today on 19th June have postponed the date.
Why the trailer release is on hold?
According to reports the film’s official trailer is on hold. The reason behind the hold of the film is its controversial name. The producer of the film Ekta Kapoor will meet the members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), today. Also, she will meet the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS). The agenda of the meeting will be a special screening of the trailer and probably a review of the title.
After the hearing at the Gujarat High Court yesterday 18th June this development comes. We may recall it that the IPS had knocked on the High Court’s door in May. And, alleged that the title of the Prakash Kovelamudi- directed thriller was “stigmatising, degrading and inhuman in projecting mental disorders and persons who suffer from mental disorders.”
Meeting Between Petitioner and Applicant
Advocate Kshitij Amin, who represents the censor board confirms the news of the meeting.
According to Kshitij’s revelation, CBFC gets the trailer from the producer on June 11. After which the CBFC calls for a meeting between the petitioner and the applicant.
They will watch the trailer and decide the further course of action. Since the discussion is likely to take place today, the court has adjourned the matter to next week.
IPS legal counsel Mitul Shelat says, “The matter is sub judice, so all I can say is that the CBFC has called for a meeting and the representatives of the IPS will be present.”
Meanwhile, Ekta Kapoor while releasing a new motion poster yesterday, reiterated that the thriller is sensitive towards the subject of mental illness.
“The film doesn’t marginalize the mental health community, and the title doesn’t intend to offend or disregard anyone’s sentiments… The movie encourages you to celebrate your uniqueness,” she wrote.
