Dutee Chand Wins 100 metre Gold at World University Games at Naples

India’s national record holder Dutee Chand has made history in the ongoing World University Games in Italy. She has become the first woman to win a gold medal in women’s track and field events here. Dutee won the race taking the time of 11.32 seconds in the 100-meter race. Switzerland’s Dale Pont (11.33 seconds) second and Germany’s Qayyi (11.39 seconds) finished third.


Dune, the national record holder of 11.24 seconds, became the first woman to win gold in a 100-meter race of a global event. Talking about the overall record, after Hima Das, she is the second racer who won gold at the global event. Hima won gold at the 400 meters race event of the World Junior Athletics Championship last year.

Dutee is the second Indian to win gold at World University’s Track and Field Events. Before that, in 2015, Inderjit Singh got the first position in Shotput.
