- Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Tuesday admitted that the possibility of CBI a political tool still exists.
- He questioned why CBI does a good job when a case has no political color?
The CJI said that efforts need to be made to separate important aspects of CBI from administrative control of the government. Justice Ranjan Gogoi was speaking during the 18th DP Kohli Memorial Lecture. He said that the CBI should be given constitutional status equal to the CAG by making laws.
They should strengthen CBI legal rights: CJI.
The CJI said that the CBI’s legal rights should strengthen in such a way that aspects like institutional structure. Mode of functioning, limited strength, responsibility are taken care of. He said that as they control the CBI under the Delhi Special Police Stabilization Act 1946, there will be a possibility of its use as a political tool.

He said that this institution has sufficient capacity to deal with any situation. During the investigation, the agency should not see what the status of a person is. The Supreme Court has issued guidelines to protect the functioning of the CBI from widespread political interference.
It should take proper steps without delay: CJI
The CJI said- Monitoring and control should be such that the police and agency should serve the people irrespective of anyone. While investigating a crime or taking action against someone, do not take care of their status. The purpose of CBI should be to serve. While investigating a case, a case should be registered against the accused and steps should be taken against him without delay.
