Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar qualify for Olympics

Indian wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar achieved the Olympic quota. However, both the players lost in the semi-finals of the World Wrestling Championship on Thursday. Ravi was beaten by Zur Ugiye of Russia 6-4 in the 57 kg weight category. Daulet Niyazbekov defeated bajrang in the 65 kg weight category. Before Ravi and Bajrang, Vinesh Phogat got an Olympic ticket in the women’s section.

Earlier, Bajrang defeated Son Dong 8–1 in the quarterfinal. They beat Slovakia’s David Haabat 3–0 in the pre-quarterfinal. Bajrang was successful in winning the silver medal in this tournament last time. Ravi Kumar defeated Korea’s Kim Sung Gwon 11-0 in the first round. Ravi defeated Arsene Harutunyan of Euro champions Armenia by a big margin of 18-6 in the second round. He defeated Yuki Takahashi of Japan in the third round. He won this match 6–1.

Sakshi Malik and Divya Karan lost

Sakshi Malik lost in the 62 kg weight category in the women’s section. Aminat Adeniyi of Nigeria defeated her by 10–7. In the 68kg category before Sakshi, Divya Karan lost 0-2 to Olympic and former world champion Sara Dosho of Japan in the first round itself.
